Wordle: GESG
We have spent the past 3 days learning and understanding how prefixes/suffixes, context clues and connotation and denotation of words help to make meaning from words and especially new words!
Today students worked with partners to explore the "shades of meaning" of new words. They now are able to look at a word and understand the denotation and the connotation of words and how sysnonyms of words can be used to express what they want to really say based on connotation.
Example: thin, slender and scrawny
The 3 words are synonyms and have similar meaning however, one word has a neutral connotation, one has a positive connotation and one has a negative connotation.
HOMEWORK: continue with their independent reading and starting novel project
