Week 1 Recap 9-7-12

Hello, parents!  I just wanted to take the time to recap this week and share with you how AMAZING the kids have been.  I must admit this is the best start of the year ever!  Your students have just started to learn about what differentiated learning is and have been loving it.  Our BIG target this year is to create Growth Mindsets and to do this, they will continue to learn how the brain works, what types of learners they are, many strategies that will help them succeed and more.  I have begun to collect information about each of your children so that I can know them better and create lessons and activities that will move all of the students to mastery but will allow the students to learn and show what they've mastered in different ways.  This class will involve a lot of group work and student involvement and I will serve as their guide.
In class they have completed:  a multiple intelligence test, an interest inventory and a syllabus scavenger hunt.  For homework they have a student info sheet due on Monday

At the end of class today, students handed me "EXIT" passes on their way out of the door with the one thing they appreciated the most so far in our class!  Here are the responses that were repeated among the entire class :)  Enjoy....Wordles, talking partners, seat choices, working in groups, they felt valued by the teacher, music in the background, clear expectations, the snowball activity, the teacher is friendly and open to everyone, the teacher has a very positive attitude and it makes the students feel comfortable, classtime is used wisely, the teacher really wanted to know us and to know eachother, and that they were part of setting the class norms "rules".

We are off to a great start!  Stay tuned......................................................
