Sneaky Tricks and Whopping Lies

Over the past couple of days students have began to learn new elements of literature focusing on "plot twist" in the short story, "Charles" and "irony" in the story, "Ransom of Red Chief."  They were able to categorize the beginning of each story and pick out the element of literature plus summarize the short story.  Today, they connected the two storied to the theme, "Sneaky Tricks and Whopping Lies".

Yesterday, I introduced the writing contest, "My Michigan Hero".  This essay can win them $1000.00 and a dinner boat cruise..very cool!  The essay is due by November 1st, is worth 100 points and one per class will be selected to go to the next level.  For this essay, a packet went home yesterday and will walk the students through the writing process.

Due Today:  List of 10 good writing attributes and the structured pre-write in the essay packet.
Due Wednesday:  Rough draft 3-5 paragraphs.
